A New Era in Interactive Fiction.

A six-chapter pulp serial adventure set in a retrofuturist 1930s vision of the cosmos, the game casts players as Captain Rafe Randall: intrepid space explorer, natural leader, and Earth’s last hope against the relentless Emperor Zorvath and his continent-vaporizing Death Ray.

The Menace From Planet Z was built using The Adventure Game Builder, Lab Boy Games’ proprietary no-code platform for creating interactive fiction. The game runs on a first of its kind proprietary full parser-based interactive fiction engine for mobile, combining natural-language parsing with a hybrid touch interface, branching dialogue, NPC memory and relationship tracking, and a dynamic hint system.

Chapter 1, “The Crimson Death Ray,” is included with download. Chapter 2, “Perils of the Void,” follows the crew of The Comet into the gravitational anomaly zone, where nothing is what it seems and a beautiful spy may be exactly what she appears to be. Four additional chapters will continue the serial through Mars, the Moon, and a final confrontation aboard Zorvath’s flagship, The Dread Conquerer.

“Interactive fiction deserves a native mobile experience that feels built for the platform, not ported to it,” said Blake, founder of Lab Boy Games. “We built The Adventure Game Builder to solve that problem, and The Menace From Planet Z is proof that it works.”

Pre-order details and a launch date for The Menace From Planet Z on the Apple App Store will be announced soon. Chapter 1 is included with download. Additional chapters are available as in-app purchases.
